Social Studies: We will finish chapter 12 about Central America and Mexico. Mexican Fiesta

information papers are past due. Homework: quiz worksheet and begin studying for your test

Language Arts: We are finishing Hatchet & completing various literature activities.

Make sure that you are keeping up with the comprehension questions.

Grammar: We will have a mid-chapter 3 quiz (lessons 1-5) on Monday. Then we will continue

with the rest of the chapter.

Writing: We will begin discussing the process of doing a research paper.

Vocabulary: Unit 9 test will be Friday. Homework: vocabulary organizer is due Friday.

Hat off to the wonderful people who put together the Wizards Game!!!! The students had a great time with “Mr. Snoop” when he visited our school! The game was fantastic! What a great show!!!!

Science: Electricity

· Monday-March 2 Advancing Science will be here to demonstrate the Van de Graff Meter! It should be a hair raising experience!!!

· We will review Electricity on Wednesday and Thursday

· The Electricity test will be on Friday – 3/6/15

Sixth grade Mathematics February 21, 2015

In 6th Grade Math this week we will finish our unit on multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers. Our test will probably be Wednesday. We will then begin a unit on algebraic expressions.

Wednesday, February 25th – Harlem Wizards! Don’t miss this event!

Thursday, February 26th – Dress down in red for $1.00 (to support the Heart Association)

Social Studies: We will continue to learn about Central America and Mexico in chapter 12. Mexican Fiesta

information paper needs to be returned by February 23rd. Homework: quiz worksheet

You will need to finish the Presidents/Coin project.

Language Arts: We are in the process of reading Hatchet & completing various literature activities.

You will need to make sure that you are keeping up with the comprehension questions.

We are also continuing our studies of figurative language.

Grammar: We will review and have a mid-chapter 3 quiz (lessons 1-5) on Wednesday.

Writing: The final typed copy of your descriptive place essay is due Tuesday.

Vocabulary: Unit 9 will be introduced. Homework: vocabulary sentences for Wednesday.

Enjoy the warmer (20s & 30s) weather.

In 6th Grade Math this week we will be working with division of mixed numbers. We will have a quiz on Wednesday and a test on Friday over multiplication and division of fractions and mixed numbers, including cancelling and simplifying.

Religion:

· Chapter 11-“ God Gives Us the Law”

· We will be discussing the Israelites journey back to the Promised Land. We will be reading about the 40 years spent wandering in the desert.

· This journey shows how God is always watching over us!

Science:

· General Science: We have the NEW electrical units on loan from Advancing Science. All Science classes will be using them as a hands-on activity. I enjoy having the students experience hands on activities to spark their love for science! These new circuit boards-“Snap Circuits, Jr.” has the students doing a variety of electronic projects dealing with complete circuits.

· We will continue with Electricity.

Lesser Antilles map quiz is Wednesday. Homework: quiz worksheet

Language Arts: We are in the process of reading Hatchet & completing various literature activities.

How will the injured Brian survive alone in the huge Canadian forest?

We are also continuing our studies of figurative language: our latest is personification.

Grammar: We will continue our study of possessive, reflexive and intensive pronouns – chapter 3.

A mid-chapter quiz may be Wednesday or Thursday.

Writing: After a teacher conference about your descriptive essay, you will be required to type

the essay. The due date will be announced after the conferences.

Vocabulary: Unit 8 test will be Friday. Homework: vocabulary organizer

Sixth Grade Mathematics February 6, 2015

In 6th Grade Math this week we will be working with multiplying fractions, cancelling, multiplying mixed numbers, reciprocals, dividing fractions, and dividing mixed numbers. (Possible quiz on Thursday or Friday)

On Monday at 12:40 we will have a presentation on “Afghanistan,” by Jessica Johnson, who taught in Kabul for the last 1 ½ years before the school was recently shut down due to security concerns. The public is invited!
